Story #2: Old Hickorys death. In his later years Old Hickory was racked with many ailments. He only had one functioning lung due to TB and he had to be propped up on pillows to rest at night. He also had Dropsy. "Old Hickorys" death was just as dramatic as the life he'd lead. As if he knew of the inpending death upon him; Andy said as he laid dying... Don't worry my friends I am soon to be in Heaven. I will see all my friends both Black and White, both Black and White. The slaves which Andy had many were in total distraught in the hallway outside his room. Andy was very nice to his slaves. A wail went up from the servants as Andy died; "Oh, Lord ol' Mass'ahs dead... ol' Massahs dead". Andys best friend Sam Houston had been notified many days earlier of the inpending death upon his dear friend. By the time Houston reached jackson's deathbed Andy had already "passed" on over to be with Rachel (His beloved wife). The imposing Houston dropped to his knees at Jacksons bedside when he realized he was too late to say goodbye to his dear friend and wept openly. An American icon was gone. "Old Hickory" whom bullets nor disease could bring down had been called "home" to the lord. Our nations 7th President was now a part of history.
